Practice Scenario (course)

Project goal

I created this activity as part of a nutrition and diabetes technology course.  The goal of the activity was to allow learners to integrate what they learned in two courses within the series about nutrition pillars, using report data, and communicating with patients about managing blood glucose levels.

Design Approach

I wrote a scenario with relevant detail and I also used actual medical report data that the SMEs shared with me to create a real-world case study. I loved the medical office graphic and I love the newer characters in Articulate Storyline.

First, the learner is provided with data to determine if any action is needed according to the report. Is there an actual problem? This forces the learner to recall what they learned in a previous course.

Based on the learner's response (the correct answer is yes), they are then provided with options to ask Don questions about his eating habits.  The learner can select any question in any order and move along in the course whenever they are ready to continue. After gathering the information, they are asked to select the best recommendation for Don.

This was a very fun scenario to create, and the client was happy with how it tied all the learning objectives together to assess the learner's knowledge and decision-making skills.  You can see that this course engages the learner through recall, retrieval, and decision-making.
